Isin Guler examines issues related to innovation strategy and international expansion. In her early work, she examined international expansion strategies of venture capital firms. She also studies resource allocation decisions in innovative contexts, such as why venture capitalists or pharmaceutical firms (fail to) terminate investments in their portfolios. Her recent publications examine when and how firms learn from their failures in innovation and investigates sources of success in pharmaceutical research and development.

She received her PhD in Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also earned her Master’s degree in Managerial Science and Applied Economics. She holds an undergraduate degree from the Middle East Technical University.

Her work has been published in prestigious research journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal and Strategy Science and received numerous awards.

Dr. Guler is an Associate Editor of Strategic Management Journal and a former Associate Editor of Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and Academy of Management Annals. She currently serves or has served as an Editorial Board Member at Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review,  Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and Journal of International Business Studies. She has served as the Chair of the Cooperative Strategies Interest Group of the Strategic Management Society and  an Executive Committee member of the STR Division of the Academy of Management.
